Before everyone else!
The game Fortnite will be available on Android from the next fall, only through the site of its publisher: Epic Games.
What is Fortnite and why such a success?
As its name suggests, Fortnite is a game of "Batte Royale", cinematographic reference to the film Kinji Fukasaku released in 2000. In the latter, a class of high school students is dropped on an island and led to fight to death so that there is only one left.
In Fortnite Battle Royale it's 100 players who are parachuted on an island in order to fight each other. Everyone starts the game with a pick that allows them to, perhaps, find a more convincing weapon to survive. After a while the combat zone starts to shrink so that all the players get closer to each other and generate even more fights.
The result: fun and increasing pressure during the game. All to make Fortnite Battle Royale very addictive. Note that the game does not rely on violence to work, the editor having decided to give it a very cartoon side unlike PUBG Mobile (PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds) which is much more realistic.
In addition, the other particularity of Fortnite is to propose a system of construction of defensive structures.
After more than four long months of waiting after the release of the game on iOS, Epic Games finally decides to land Fortnite on Android. So: what is the portage of one of the greatest success of the moment?
Prerequisites: a modern and powerful smartphone
Epic Games announced it a month ago: Fortnite will not be able to run on all Android smartphones. If we imagined that it would be possible to play in comfortable conditions on a smartphone such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 - with which we tested the game - we have fallen naked. Because it turns out that it struggles to turn the game correctly.
With an image rate of 30 to 20, or less if you have the misfortune to receive a notification in full, it becomes quite difficult to imagine that a smartphone with a chipset lower than Snapdragon 820 can run Fortnite.
The main performance problems appear from the beginning of the game: the game oars heavily during the fall of our character cargo. If it seems to take a second wind once on the ground, it is during the duels or when you gain height that the game again undergoes heavy slowdowns.
Graphically speaking, the portage is not doing too badly. Although the graphics have been revised downward, Fortnite has more than a good graphic quality for a mobile 3D game.
For powerful smartphones, Epic Games had the good taste to let players manage graphics settings to improve performance or appearance, as PC gamers could. The less powerful smartphones will be condemned to never exceed the maximum performance achievable by their smartphone. In our case, with the Samsung Galaxy S7, you can not adjust the graphics settings of the game in medium or more.
It is difficult to imagine that players with older and less powerful smartphones than the S7 can correctly enjoy a game on their Android.
The sound environment is crucial in the game, a graphic aid was designed to help the player to locate the provenance of the shots as well as the footsteps of his enemies.
The construction mode is quite difficult to exploit, not to mention the latencies generated by the buildings on a smartphone little powerful when we build too many walls or if we take a little too high.Android being able to handle the mice and keyboards, most of the handling problems listed above could have been compensated by these devices.
Despite the problems of handling and latency, the title is still pleasant to play ... at least, if we do not take the parties too seriously. It will forgive him more easily its frail performance on less powerful smartphones. If the fun and some sensations that can offer the PC version are found on this nomadic version, slowdowns and grip a little painful of the game - even on powerful smartphone - will most certainly put off more than one day.
